25th Anniversary Profile | Maria Torres

This year is an important milestone for ProTrans International – 2018 marks our 25th year as a leader in the logistics industry. Over the past 25 years, ProTrans has stayed a steady presence in the industry and has found its niche in the 3PL and Consolidation market. To help celebrate this year we are celebrating 25 people who have dedicated years of service to help shape ProTrans into the organization that we know today.

Our featured profile today is of Maria Torres, FTZ coordinator. Torres has been with ProTrans for 19 years. Her photo was taken in Thailand on the island of Phuket with her grandson.

      1. What position(s) have you held since working with ProTrans?
        •   I started with ProTrans in 1999 in Operations with a team of approximately 24 employees, proceeded to become Team Leader, CSR, Account Supervisor (Interdynamics) and i am currently the FTZ Coordinator.

      1. What is one interesting fact about ProTrans when you started?
        • The interesting thing about ProTrans was the team concept and the continuous relationship with Craig.  Craig knew all the employees by name and encouraged us to be empowered.
      1. What was the “hip” trend when you started working at ProTrans?
        • Cell Phones were the trend.
      1. What was the last thing you heard or saw which made you laugh out loud?
        • Vegas, we saw an inebriated man walking the strip, he was taking 3 steps forward and 4 back, it must have taken him all night to get to where he was going. We spent about 15 minutes just looking and laughing our heart out.
      1. What hobbies do you enjoy?
        • I enjoy reading and traveling.
      1. Cats or dogs? Or other pets?
        • I have a Chihuahua dog named Hershey that has his own wardrobe for all occasions including his Dallas Cowboy jersey.
      1. What excites you so much that it keeps you awake the night before?
        • Travel arrangements
      1. What is the one thing you have waited in line the longest for?
        • When my daughter was about 8 or 9 years old, she wanted a Dalmatian puppy from Santa Claus, and it seems every child that year wanted one too, so I could not find one anywhere in El Paso for sale.  Someone found one for me in Juarez, MX. and I went to pick it up 2 days before Christmas, I spent almost 4 hours on the international bridge to cross for the little puppy.
      1. Since starting with ProTrans, what is the biggest change you have seen/experienced with the company?
        • The biggest change I’ve seen is the growth, and I feel somehow I contributed to this growth.
      1. What way has the industry changed since you started with ProTrans?
        • Growth, it seems Logistic companies are now our leading industry in El Paso.
      1. What industry trends do you see emerging in the upcoming years?
        • With the new Presidential Administration, everything is up in the air, so it’s hard to presume.
      1. What is the 1 thing in this world you are most proud of?
        • I’m most proud of my two children, they both turned out to be fine, loving human beings.
      1. What are you passionate about?
        • My entire family, we’re a very large and close family and everything to do with them is very important to me.
      1. If you could take a paid year off, what would you do with the time?
        • I would travel to several of the destinations on my bucket list… Ireland, London, Hong Kong and Egypt.
      1. What’s the most incredible view you’ve ever seen?
        • El Paso sunset and Red moon.
      1. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?
        • I’m a new grandmother, so I think I would like to max out Babies-R-Us.
      1. If you could splurge on one must have item, what would it be?
        • Remodel my house.
      1. What was the best concert you ever attended?
        •  Rolling Stones
      1. What is your favorite sport? Team? And Sport’s moment in history?
        • Football, my team is Dallas Cowboys and my family would not have it any other way.  We’re diehard fans of the Dallas Cowboys.
      1. What has compelled you to stay with ProTrans for as long as you have?
        • This company has been very good to me, it helped me to obtain my Bachelor Degree and has allowed me to grow within the company.
