Capacity Constraints Going into the Weekend and a New Storm on the Horizon

As we head into the weekend, we continue to monitor this week’s winter storm activity and industry transportation recovery across the eastern half of the U.S. While some operations have stabilized and companies are working through the backlog, new storm developments in the Southeast and along the East Coast are expected to create additional potential disruption heading into the weekend.

Current Conditions

  • Facilities that were closed or limited earlier in the week are fully operational but still recovering

  • Despite normalization, carrier networks remain strained as they work through recovery efforts creating capacity limitations as well as weekend staffing constraints

  • Northbound/southbound imbalances are further impacting equipment availability

  • LTL pickups today may still experience delays getting delivered to consolidation hubs on-time

Developing Weather Risks (Jan 30–31)

A winter storm is forecast to impact the Southeast beginning Friday evening through Saturday, followed by a rapidly intensifying East Coast system that may bring:

  • Heavy snow and high winds across the Carolinas, Georgia, and parts of the Northeast

  • Additional service interruptions in regions already affected by ice and snow

Customers should plan for continued transit delays through the weekend, particularly for freight moving into or out of the Southeast and Northeast. Time-sensitive shipments may require additional lead time, and flexibility around pickup and delivery windows is strongly recommended.
